Coal Mines

Utkal D & Utkal E Coal Mine is situated in Chhendipada Tehsil of Angul District. Coal Mine is operational since November 2022, serving the feedstock to Captive Power Plant situated at NALCO’s Smelter & Power Complex, Angul. Present capacity of coal mine is 4 Million TPA. Net Geological Coal reserve in the block is 297.578 Million Tonnes. However, the mining by opencast is only feasible up-to a maximum depth of 242 m. So, extractable Coal reserves estimated up to the depth of 242 mts is only 170.877 Million Tonnes that can be extracted by conventional opencast method with shovel-dumper combination and Surface Miner.
