NALCO celebrates Hindi Diwas and Hindi Fortnight

Bhubaneswar, 14/09/2017: National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO), the Navratna CPSE, under Ministry of Mines, celebrated Hindi Diwas with a view to promoting the use of Hindi as official language.
Throughout the Hindi Fortnight from Sept 1 to Sept 14, the Aluminium major organised various competitions in its plants and corporate office, in Hindi, including debate, noting, quiz, and poster competition etc among children and its employees. At the concluding day function held at corporate office, Dr Tapan Kumar Chand, Chairman-cum- Managing Director, NALCO, as the Chief Guest, handed over the prizes to the winners in various competitions.
Expressing his view on the occasion of Hindi Diwas, Dr. Tapan Kumar Chand said, “Official language Hindi can play an important role in making India a developed nation. In many foreign countries, they have used their own language and prospered. Hindi is a major source of unity and integrity of India and also acts as a strong pillar for economic development of India.”
Dr. Chand awarded Shankar Dayal Singh Smriti Puraskar of Rs.5000 each to Shri Jay Bhaskar Jha, Assistant Manager (C & I) of Captive Power Plant and Shri Krushna Chandra Moharana, Superintendent (Safety), Smelter Plant, NALCO, Angul for their contribution in promoting the use of Hindi. Dr. Chand encouraged and advised all employees to do some day to day work in Hindi.
Gracing the function as honorable guest, Sri B.K. Thakur, Director (HR) stressed, “Use of Hindi is increasing as a liaisoning language not only in entire India, but it also plays an important role in communication between different areas.” Dr. Thakur advocated for practice of simple Hindi.
Shri Amiya Kumar Patnaik, General Manager (H & A), Shri S. K. Mishra, General Manager (H & A) and Shri Javed Reyaz, General Manager (IE, CC & PR)-I/C, graced the occasion as special guests.
At the outset, the Hindi Day Message of Shri Narendra Singh Tomar, Union Minister for Rural Development, Panchayati Raj and Mines, Govt. of India was read out on the occasion.
Hindi Fortnight was celebrated in Corporate Office, Bhubaneswar and other units at Angul and Damanjodi and Regional offices of NALCO for promoting use of Hindi and encouraging the employees to work in Hindi. The function was co-ordinated by Shri Hariram Pansari, Senior Manager (Rajbhasha).
