Odisha should emerge as a Manufacturing Hub: Dr. Chand, CMD, NALCO

Bhubaneswar, 07/12/2016 : While Odisha has strength in its mining and mineral base, the entire value chain mining, mineral, metal, downstream – upstream, manufacturing – marketing, need to be maximized to have more MSMEs and more jobs. “Dr. Tapan Kumar Chand, CMD of Nalco while sharing his views in a panel discussion during the Business Standard Odisha Round Table – 2016 at Bhubaneswar on 7th December 2016. Participating in the panel discussion on ‘Attracting investment – Challenges and Opportunities’. Citing the example of the international aluminium industry, Dr. Chand said : “While there are around 3,000 applications of aluminium in use at the international level, in India, we are limited to only 300 usages. Development of ancillary industries can help address this issue, enhancing the use of aluminium in different sectors.”

“While the State is geared up to promote ancillary industries, Nalco is setting up an Aluminium Park in Angul, in collaboration with IDCO to support downstream and upstream industries,” Dr. Chand informed. He further said: “Nalco has also initiated an industry-institution synergy programme to encourage budding entrepreneurs.”

Hon’ble Chief Minister of Odisha, Shri Naveen Patnaik, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The other panelists were Shri Debi Prasad Mishra, Minister, Industries, School and Mass Education, Shri Aditya Prasad Padhi, Chief Secretary, Shri Subroto Bagchi, Chairman, Odisha Skill Development Authority and Shri P.K. Jena, Principal Secretary, IT, Govt of Odisha.
