Education

NALCO has undertaken several initiatives in the field of education. Starting from construction and renovation of class rooms, water supply systems, toilets and boundary walls for schools, organising literary competitions, science exhibitions and study tours for students of periphery high schools, felicitating meritorious students of peripheral schools, supplying ceiling fans, furniture, science equipment and library books to peripheral schools.

The company recently launched “NALCO KI LADLI” a scheme at Angul and Damanjodi which looks into promoting meritorious girl students from BPL/Poor families under Govt. of India’s “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” programme. Financial assistance of Rs 0.6 lakh provided for Student Formula Car for the Society of Automotive Engineers, NIT, Rourkela – Formula Student India 2015 Championship. NALCO runs four schools in Damanjodi and Angul sectors, up to +2 level:

  • Two Oriya-medium (Saraswati Vidya Mandir)
  • Two English-medium (Delhi Public School)

These schools provide quality education to the children of both Nalconians & Non-Nalconians. Besides its own schools, the Company extends infrastructural and educational support (like books, furniture and lab equipment) to the institutions located in the vicinity of NALCO’s plant and facilities. The Company is assisting adult education centers for improving the literacy level of older people.

NALCO has successfully completed 144 school buildings on behalf of Government of Odisha and Prime Minister’s office at cyclone-affected areas of undivided Cuttack district. Additional 53 nos. of schools in the district of Jagatsinghpur were again entrusted to NALCO, which have been completed and handed over to Govt, of Odisha.
