Bhubaneswar, 24/11/2016 : “Organizational policies need to be culturally compatible and business managers should develop cultural intelligence for better adaptability and results, in the present era of globalization,” said Dr. Tapan Kumar Chand, CMD of Navratna Nalco. As chief guest, Dr. Chand was addressing the inaugural session of the International Conference on ‘Cross Cultural Dimensions of Management : Issues and Challenges in the Era of Globalization’, today at Berhampur University. The two-day UGC-sponsored conference is being organized by the Department of Business Administration of the University. Pointing out major cross-cultural dimensions like Individualism vs. Collectivism, Risk-taking vs. Risk-aversion, Competition vs. Collaboration, Structural Proximity vs. Structural Distance, Time Past vs. Time Future, Dr. Chand advised the present-day action managers to thoroughly understand cultural dimensions to side-step the pitfalls of inter-cultural miscommunication. One of the key attributes of the success of his company Nalco, is its egalitarian culture, Dr. Chand added.
The conference was inaugurated by Dr. Pradeep Kumar Panigrahy, Minister of Higher Education, Science & Technology, Govt. of Odisha. Prof. Rajendra Prasad Das, Vice-Chancellor of Berhampur University delivered the welcome address and introduced the theme of the conference. Professors from Bangladesh, Japan and other countries also addressed the conference.
