Bhubaneswar, 09/06/2018: “Corporate Social Responsibility is the comprehensive responsibility of corporates towards society and it goes beyond statutory provisions and mandatory regulations. Corporates should be conscious of such responsibility as they are the trustee of the society,” said Dr. Tapan Kumar Chand, CMD, NALCO. Dr. Chand said this while inaugurating the third National Seminar on “Corporate Social Responsibility Initiatives-2018 (Evaluating Sustainable Development)” here today. The seminar was organized by Institute of Quality & Environment Management Services, Institute of Public Enterprise, Hyderabad and HR Solution.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Chand asked the corporate houses to make CSR an integral part of their business operations. “CSR should be an attitude and a part of the work culture of companies, which must be inculcated among its employees.,” said Dr. Chand. Citing NALCO as a socially responsible corporate citizen, Dr. Chand said that the Navratna CPSE does many developmental and welfare activities of the society beyond statutory stipulations, treating CSR as a comprehensive responsibility towards society. “The company is now moving from CSR to ESR – Employee Social Responsibility, wherein, human resource of the company shall be contributing to the betterment of the society severally and collectively. NALCO has recently adopted a mantra – ‘Waste to Wealth, Wealth to Welfare’ under which, a part of the revenue generated from waste management will go towards the welfare on flagship CSR programs like Indradhanush (residential education programme for tribal children of Koraput), Mobile Health Units in Angul and Damanjodi, SwachhVidyalayaAbhiyan, NALCO kiLadli to educate and empower girl children and providing Electric Vehicles in railway stations for old, Divyangs and sick passengers”. These projects are based on needs and expectations of the community being suitably addressed by NALCO.
