ESI awareness programme for contract workers

Recognizing the rights & contributions of contract workers, paves way for inclusive growth: Dr Chand, CMD, NALCO

Bhubaneswar, 03/06/2018: Odisha State ESI Insured Association and Nalco Employees Forum, jointly organized an awareness programme for the contract workers to make aware the various provisions under Employees’ State Insurance (ESI). The programme was organized at the Nalco Mahanadi Nivas Auditorium, here at Bhubaneswar, today.

Gracing the inaugural ceremony as the chief guest, Dr. Tapan Kumar Chand, CMD, NALCO, released an awareness booklet in the presence of Shri Priyadarshi Mishra, Hon’ble MLA, Bhubaneswar (North), Shri R.N. Mallick, Dy. Director (Benefits), ESI central, Shri Kishore Chandra Jena, General Secretary, INTUC, Shri Madan Mohan Dhal, Vice President, INTUC & Executive Body Member, State ESI Board and Shri Mahendra Parida, National Secretary, AICCTU.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Chand, lauded the ESI Act – the flagship social security scheme, being implemented by central & state governments for the benefit of contract workers. Terming the social security schemes as support systems from ‘Womb to Tomb’ Dr Chand said, that these social security schemes are necessary for the working class in both organized & unorganized sectors, but the setback is due to the lack of effective implementation and lack of awareness among the working class.

Appreciating the contribution of contract workers in the success of NALCO, Dr Chand said “We at NALCO strongly believe that recognizing the rights & contributions of contract workers plays vital role in organizational success and paves way for inclusive growth”. Going a step further, we now focus on four ‘P’s – Prerana (Motivation), Protsahan (Encouragement), Puraskar (Remuneration) and Prashikshan (Skill Development), for our contract workers, added Dr Chand.

At the outset, Shri P.K. Das, General Secretary, Nalco Employees Forum, delivered the welcome address, while Shri P.K. Kar, General Secretary, Odisha State ESI Insured Persons Association, shared the past and future activities of the association. The seminar also witnessed technical session by HR officials of NALCO, Doctors from ESI hospital and ESI authorities. The seminar was attended by contract workers from all across the State, representatives of various trade unions & associations including members of NALCO Employees Forum & Odisha State ESI Insured Association.
