Bhubaneswar, 26/11/2018: Alumina Refinery of Navratna NALCO, located at Damanjodi in Koraput District of Odisha has bagged the prestigious CII-Exim Bank Business Excellence Award for the year 2018 in the Gold Plus category. The Award is based on the internationally recognized EFQM Excellence Model and is considered to be one of the highest recognition in the country in the area of Business Excellence. Instituted by the CII and the Export-Import Bank of India, the award was presented at the Quality Summit, held at Bengaluru recently. The award has been instituted with the aim of enhancing the Competitiveness of India Inc.

Appreciating the concerted efforts made by the employees, Dr. Tapan Kumar Chand, CMD of the company, conveyed hearty congratulations to NALCO Collective and said, that with our new business plan in place, we now focus on business excellence rather than just being a business organization.

It may also be noted that earlier NALCO’s Alumina Refinery was also awarded for business excellence in the operational areas in 2016. Setting global benchmark, the company’s Alumina Refinery is considered to be the lowest cost producer of alumina in the World (as per Wood Mackenzie report). The refinery had clocked the highest ever Alumina Hydrate production of 21.06 lakh with 100% capacity utilization in 2017-18. Known for its excellent quality, the alumina produced is highly sought in the international market. Similarly, NALCO’s Panchpatmali Bauxite mine has been rated as the 2nd lowest cost producer in the World.

Worth mentioning that beyond business, NALCO’s efforts towards CSR and Social Innovation are also highly appreciated as the Navratna company is involved in multifarious CSR activities in Koraput Dist in the areas of health care, infrastructure development, water management and education initiatives including NALCO ki ladli and sponsoring tribal children for quality education.
