Bhubaneswar : National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO) celebrated the Utkal Divas with gaiety and fervour, at Nalconagar, Bhubaneswar, on 1 st April. To mark the occasion, the company celebrated the day with a function at Bhubaneswar, which reflected a distinct spirit of Odisha.
While addressing the gathering Dr. Tapan Kumar Chand, CMD, Nalco informed that London based Wood-Mackenzie has rated Nalco as the lowest-cost producer of Alumina in the world. He also informed that Nalco has recorded the highest production of Bauxite 6.825 million tonne and has achieved 100% mining capacity. In alumina hydrate production, Refinery, Damanjodi has also recorded highest ever production of alumina i.e. 2.1 million tonne. In aluminum metal production during the last two years Nalco has consistently achieving higher production and during this fiscal it has recorded 3.87 lakh tonne production of aluminium. There is all round growth in productivity and techno economic parameters enabling Nalco to achieve better profitability in sluggish market conditions. During the last two years, Nalco’s share price in stock exchange has jumped two-fold from Rs. 37.50 of face value of Rs. 5 per share to Rs.75 currently trading in the market. Department of Public Enterprise, Govt. of India has given excellent MoU rating to Nalco for its performance during 2015-16. Nalco’s performance in the domestic and international market has also earn highest export award in mineral and ores sector. In the areas of R&D Nalco has developed nano-based technology for deflouridization of water which is considered as one of its kind in the world. For value addition products Nalco is hand holding a special purpose vehicle(SPV) Angul Aluminium Park and is also proposing to sign MoU with Mishra Dhatu Nigam(MIDHANI) for high end product making. As per public enterprise survey of DPE, the company has been rated as the second highest net foreign exchange earning CPSE.Significant improvement in performance parameter of Nalco have strengthen the moral and motivation of Nalco collective to go for aggressive expansion which are unveiled in Odisha.
During the programme, Dr. Tapan Kumar Chand, CMD, Nalco felicitated two promising sportspersons of Odisha viz. Shri Sukhram Majhi and Md. Jafar Iqbal. Each of them received a trophy and a purse of Rs.20,000/-. The company also felicitated five MSMEs namely M/s. INDFAB, M/s. Gupteswar Flour Mills, M/s. Saran Industries, M/s. Rawlley Engineers and M/s. Allied Technocrats for their sustained efforts and contributions in the MSME Sector of Odisha. For the first time, Nalco organized an essay competition among the students of different colleges and universities. The winners were also handed over the prizes and certificates on the occasion.
Shri B.K. Thakur, Director (HR) welcomed the guests at the outset. Shri V. Balasubramanyam, Director (Production), Shri S.K. Roy, Director (P&T) and Smt. Preeti Roy, President, Nalco Mahila Samiti were notably present on the occasion.
