    Nalco Chief to receive D.Litt. from Utkal University

    Bhubaneswar, 10/02/2016: Shri Tapan Kumar Chand, CMD of Navratna CPSE National Aluminium Company Limited (Nalco), shall receive the prestigious Honoris Causa D.Litt. from Utkal University, in recognition of his “contributions towards nation building”. On behalf of the Syndicate of Utkal University and the Chancellor, this was announced in an official communiqué from the office of VC, on Tuesday. Shri Chand shall receive the honorary degree during the 47th Convocation of the University to be held on 16th February. Incidentally, he is a gold medalist from the same University.

    Shri Chand, who has more than 3 decades of rich experience in mining and metal sector, including 8 years at helm of affairs of the companies, has made immense contributions in the areas of productivity, profitability and development of business models, including CSR & SD domain. He had undergone training in Advanced Management Programme in International Centre for Promotion of Enterprises (ICPE), in Western Europe and in Queensland University of Technology, Australia. He represented Indian Steel Industry in Paris Meet of OECD. In the areas of Corporate Governance, he was adjudged as the outstanding performer by SCOPE and Department of Public Enterprises, Govt. of India. Recently, he has been elected to the post of National Chairman of Mines & Minerals Council of ASSOCHAM.

    It is noteworthy that within six months of assuming the Office of Nalco’s CMD, Shri Chand has played a stellar role in Nalco’s image makeover and investment plans, besides securing raw materials through acquisition of coal and bauxite mines. He has also taken up globalization of operations of companies like RINL and Nalco, making the presence of such Indian companies strong across the world. Moreover, through Industry-Institution interface initiatives, he is facilitating the institutions to get an international exposure and global foothold.

    Following the present recognition, people from all walks of life, including representatives of various institutions and industry bodies like CII, Utkal Chamber of Commerce and ASSOCHAM, have started sending congratulatory notes to Shri Chand. Industry circle feels that such accolade to an eminent industry captain will go a long way in boosting the business environment of the State.
