Shri Chand was addressing the engineering fraternity yesterday in Bhubaneswar, at a function organized by Ever Green Forum. The 1st prize would carry a purse of Rs 2 lakh & a citation, while the 2nd prize shall have Rs. 1 lakh and two third prizes of Rs 50,000 each for the recipients. The function was attended by Shri Ramesh Chandra Majhi, Commerce & Transport Minister, Govt. of Odisha, Shri Prasanna Patasani, MP, senior Professors of IIT & other noted institutions.

“The awards for engineering excellence shall be our humble tributes to the engineers for introduction and adoption of green technology in the industrialization of Odisha,” Shri Chand said. Intellectuals and NGOs associated with green initiatives have appreciated NALCO’s gesture.

It may be mentioned here that NALCO, a state-owned Navratna company, has been taking manifold measures for conservation and protection of environment, besides strengthening green initiatives in the society. While the company spends around Rs. 190 crore per annum in pollution control and environment protection measures, some of its latest initiatives include sponsoring publication of book on aquatic plants in Eastern India and urban plantation by the side of Bhubaneswar-Cuttack National Highway, entailing an expenditure of Rs 2.5 crore.
