NALCO receives the prestigious SCOPE Excellence Award

Bhubaneswar, 11/04/2017 : NALCO, has won the prestigious SCOPE Award for Excellence and Outstanding Contribution to Public Sector Management – Institutional Category I (Maharatna & Navratna PSEs). The Hon’ble President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee presented the award to Dr Tapan Kumar Chand, CMD, NALCO at a function organized, on the occasion of Public Sector Day celebrations, at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi on 11th April 2017 in the presence of Shri Anant G. Geete, Hon’ble Minister of Heavy Industries & Public Enterprises , Shri Babul Supriyo, Minister of State for Heavy Industries & Public Enterprises, Secretary (Department of Public Enterprises) and a galaxy of dignitaries including Secretaries, CMDs, CEOs, top Central Govt. Officers, management experts etc. NALCO also received another award for meritorious performance in CSR. NALCO is one of the top two Navratna/Maharatna companies receiving double prestigious awards.
Selection to this prestigious award has been made based on stringent criteria devised / evaluated by Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu India LLP and a distinguished panel of eminent persons as Jury comprising Justice R.C. Lahoti, former Chief Justice of India, Padma Bhushan Shri Moosa Raza, former Secretary to the Government of India, Padma Bhushan Dr M.B. Athreya, renowned Management Consultant, Shri Arvind Pande, former Chairman, SAIL and Shri C. Phunsog, former Chairman, PESB.
It will be worth mentioning that the Navaratna PSU reported significant growth in the last fiscal in the areas of production and sales. The company achieved 7.65 % growth in bauxite production by recording 68.25lakh tonnes in FY16-17, the highest since inception. Continuing the stellar performance the refinery segment of the company also saw a jump of 7.53% in Alumina Hydrate making record production of 21 lakh tonne. At its smelter plant in Angul the company has set in the process of increasing production with a 4.03% increase in production of metal at 3.87 lakh tonnes. Its captive power plant too saw an increase in power generation of 6066MU which represents an increase of 3.85% YoY. On the sales front too the company has reasons to cheer with 6.15% growth in chemical sales, 6.32% increase in metal export and 2.52% increase in the domestic sale of metal. NALCO has been registering continuously growth in all its production parameters for the last two years and this has been main propeller for continuous profitability despite market sluggishness.
