Odisha Metalliferous Mines Safety Week Concludes

Bhubaneswar, 13/01/2014: Odisha Metalliferous Mines Safety Week (Under the aegis of the Directorate General of Mines Safety) concluded yesterday at Bhubaneswar. Shri Anup Biswas, Dy Director, Mines Safety (SEZ), Ranchi, graced the concluding ceremony as the chief guest while Shri Ansuman Das, CMD of NALCO presided over the function.

Shri S.N. Padhi, Ex-Director General of Mines Safety, Govt of India, was honoured with ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ for his extraordinary contribution towards promoting safety and welfare measures in mines.

It may be mentioned that the annual mega event is organized as part of a special drive of Director General of Mines Safety, Govt of India, to promote safety and welfare measures in Mines. Panchapatmali mines of National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO) hosted the event. This year, altogether 21 mines under the jurisdiction of Director of Mines Safety, Bhubaneswar region participated in the safety week celebration that was observed from 9th December 2013 to 21st December 2013. During the period competitions were held in various categories and mines inspections were also carried out to focus on implementation of several safety and welfare measures in the mines.

Shri D.K. Mohanty, GM(Mines) I/c, Panchpatmali Bauxite Mines of NALCO, was awarded with the Best Executive Award , while Shri Bijaya Kumar Sahu, Chargeman (Mechanical) of Sukinda Chromite mines of TATA Steel was awarded the Best Worker Award for outstanding contributions in implementation and promotion of safety and welfare measures in Mines.

Panchpatmali Bauxite Mines of NALCO was also adjudged as the overall best mines in group A category of highly mechanized mines whereas, Sukinda mines (Chromite) of M/s IMFA and Chhuinpalli Quartzite of M/s TRL Krosahi Refract Ltd. were adjudged as the overall Best Mines under group B and D category respectively.

The award ceremony was held in presence of Shri R. Subramanian, Director of Mines Safety, Shri S.S. Mahapatra, Director (Production), NALCO, Shri R.K. Mishra, ED(M&R), NALCO and Shri Arvind Kumar, Deputy Director of Mines Safety.
