Bhubaneswar, 09/01/2018: CMD of NALCO Dr. Tapan Kumar Chand chose the 63 rd National School Games event to urge parents, teachers, mentors and students to come together to support children to take up Sports as a professional career. “Encouraging children to take up sports as a professional career can generate many socio-economic benefits. The role of sports in society is tremendous considering the positive impact on individuals and communities.’’

Oraganised by the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) and School Games Federation of India (SGFI) in KIIT Campus, the National School Games Rope Skipping event, brought together participants from across the country to fight it out for top honours in the under 14 Boys and Girls category. Moved by the enthusiasm of children, CMD of NALCO, said, ‘’It is a sheer joy to watch the children enjoy and compete. NALCO has declared this year as the Year of Happiness. Children should have a dream and it is our collective responsibility to do our best to fulfil that dream. Developing a sporting culture in our country is very important as sports have been used as a means to propagate friendship and peace. Indian can succeed in its mission of becoming a sporting Super Power if children are encouraged to take up sports by teachers and parents.’’

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Chand added, ‘’NALCO is doing its bit to support sports and sportspersons. This year the Company is going to put its might behind sports. NALCO will support 200 budding sportspersons and will aim to turn their dreams into reality by providing them facilities to compete at the highest level.’’

Dr. Chand complemented the SGFI and KVS for organising such a mega event smoothly.
