Bhubaneswar, 10/01/2016: “Apart from planting 6.8 crore saplings around its plants and sites, Nalco has been undertaking various beautification projects throughout Odisha. Since we are headquartered at Bhubaneswar, we would like to promote the capital city as the next floral hub, similar to Bangalore, and tag it as a green city,” said Shri Tapan Kumar Chand, CMD, Nalco, while addressing the 2-day State-level Annual Flower Show, at the Regional Plant Resource Centre (RPRC), which concluded on Sunday. For this, Nalco shall enhance the green cover and encourage horticulture activities. “In fact, recently we have taken up an avenue plantation, at a project cost of Rs. 2.52 crore, between the twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar, with the help of Odisha Forest Development Corporation. Besides, in our Corporate Office and township, we have already taken up steps to harness unconventional energy sources,” Shri Chand informed.

Attending the prize-giving ceremony of the biggest and the most beautiful flower show of the state as the chief guest, Shri Chand, accompanied by Smt Preeti Roy, President, Nalco Mahila Samiti, visited various sections of the exhibition, like cut-flower, flower arrangement, floral display, plant bazar, mini-garden, mini-forest, nurseries and exhibition stalls, appreciating the efforts of organizer RPRC, operating under the aegis of Forest & Environment Department, Govt of Odisha. Nalco has been associated with the show over the years as sponsor, which started way back in 1988.

“Going by the increasing number of participants and footfalls, the show has become a people’s show. Now it’s time that the show graduates from state-level to a national-level event and Nalco, as a responsible corporate citizen, is ready to extend all supports,” Shri Chand concluded.

RPRC in collaboration with the Plant Lovers Association, Bhubaneswar has been organizing this annual flower show. Shri Susant Nanda, Director of Horticulture, Shri Khirod Pattnaik, President, Plant Lovers Association and other officials of RPRC were notably present on the occasion.
