    “Productive bargaining is redefining Industrial Relations”:NALCO CMD

    Bhubaneswar, 24/03/2017 : “Changes in business scenario and operational dynamics in the industry are metamorphosing the industrial climate, necessitating redefinition of the role and function of Industrial Relations in the country,” said Dr. Tapan Kumar Chand, CMD, NALCO and Chairman, CII, Odisha State Council. He was addressing the IR Conclave, organized by Confederation of Indian Industry, held on 24 th March 2017 in Bhubaneswar.
    In his welcome address, Dr. Chand mentioned that the emergence of knowledge worker who is well-informed, analytical, legally sharp, capable of cogent thought and logical expression calls for a paradigm shift in the way IR is addressed. “Collective Bargaining is gradually being eroded and paving the way for productive bargaining.” said Dr Chand. He called on the captains of the industry and IR practitioners to deliberate and rework strategies in engaging the knowledge workers. Productivity, profits and economic growth provide long lasting IR solutions, he added.Dr. Chand stressed that industry should also focus on the contractual labour system since their welfare, wages, training and development will bring in inclusive growth and define in industrial relations in the future.
    Shri Debi Prasad Mishra Hon’ble Minister of Industries and School & Mass Education, Govt. of Odisha, graced the conclave as Guest of Honour. Shri Umesh Chowdhary, Chairman, CII Eastern Region & Vice Chairman & Managing Director, Titagarh Group delivered a special address on the occasion and Shri Partha Sarathi Mishra, Co-Chairman, CII Eastern Region HR & IR Subcommittee & Chief HR Manager, Kalinganagar Steel & Gopalpur Project, Tata Steel Ltd. presented the concluding remarks. Later Shri Umesh Chowdhary, Chairman, CII Eastern Region & Vice Chairman & Managing Director, Titagarh Group, Dr. Tapan Kumar Chand, CMD, NALCO and Chairman, CII, Odisha State Council and Ms Jagi Mangat Panda, Deputy Chairperson, CII Eastern Region & MD, Ortel Communications Ltd. met Shri Aditya Prasad Padhi, IAS, Chief Secretary, Govt. of Odisha and Shri Sanjeev Chopra, IAS, Principal Secretary, Department of Industries, Govt. of Odisha.

    NALCO, which started its commercial operations in 1987 has been earning profits consistently and has been declaring dividends since 1992. In 2015-16 fiscal, the company had declared a total dividend of Rs.467.13 crore. It may be mentioned that since inception,NALCO has paid a total of Rs.6365 crore as dividend including Rs.5371 crore as share of Govt. of India.
